Scaddan Primary School

Newsletter Week 8, Term 3 2021

Principal Welcome Week 8, Term 3 2021

Happy Father's Day to all the special men in our student's lives. I hope everyone had a lovely weekend.

Education Assistant Week

Week 7 was Education Assistant week. We have 2 incredible EA's who set high expectations and are highly effective in supporting our students and staff with quality teaching programs.  Mrs Guerini and Mrs Karafilis are valued staff members who genuinely care for our students. We also appreciate Mrs Suttar who is an amazing relief EA. Thank you for all that you do.

R U OK? Day

This Thursday 9th September, 2021 is our national day of action dedicated to reminding everyone that every day is the day to ask, “Are you OK?” and support those struggling with life's ups and downs. Mrs van Straaten engaged the students in activities on Monday to explore this important message. While children can't be expected to fix someone’s problems, they can be encouraged to listen to what their friend is saying, show they care and tell a teacher, school counsellor/chaplain or trusted adult if they are worried about their friend. Scaddan Primary School students are very caring and supportive.

NAPLAN 2021

NAPLAN is a national literacy and numeracy assessment sat by students in Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 in May each year. NAPLAN reports of students who participated in the test have been sent home today. A brochure containing information about how to read and interpret your child's individual student report is accompanying the report and can also be downloaded from

http://k10outline.scsa.wa.edu.au/home/assessment/testing/naplan/parents

As a school, we use this data along with other school-based assessments to understand individual student achievement and progress. This information is used to support your child to reach their full potential. Staff will be unpacking and analysing the results at our next staff meeting.

The results were pleasing with year 5 results above national average in Reading, Language Conventions - Grammar and Punctuation and Numeracy. Year 3 writing results were at or above national average.

Student drop off and pick up

Just a friendly reminder that students are to arrive at school at 8:30am. They will be supervised in the playground from 8:30am by a staff member.

When dropping off and picking up your child, enter and exit along the admin footpath. Please make sure your child is accompanied to the carpark once dismissed from their classroom teacher at the end of the day. Students are not to run across the carpark unsupervised. Thank you for your support.

Planning 2022

Kindergarten enrolment packs are available on the website and Pre-Primary enrolment packs have been sent home with Kindergarten students. Please return to school once completed. This assists with planning in 2022.

Swim Week

Swim week is fast approaching. Please let me know if you have any questions about the information that went home last week. An itinerary of the week was included. Kindergarten students do not attend swim week and will not attend school during Week 10. There will be 3 additional Kindy days in Term 4 in lieu of Week 10 Swim Week. A letter will be going home this week with your child.

Bushfire Plan

Last week you would have received an updated Bushfire plan. Students and staff engaged in an emergency drill today. We will also be holding another in Term 4 in preparation for the warmer weather.

Attendance Matters

As a school, we are required to work towards improving the attendance of our students.

ATTENDANCE

Congratulations to the following students who have achieved 100% attendance so far this term:

Billie, Hunter and Pippa

Congratulations to the following students who have achieved at or above our school target of 93% attendance so far this term:

Ryder, Sailor and Layla.

At Scaddan Primary School, our goal is to ensure every student has the opportunity to achieve their potential.

Scaddan Primary School will maintain consistently high levels of student attendance with a target of 93% or above. The Department of Education classifies any student below 90% as an attendance risk.

We know that everyday at school contributes to learning, which leads to better engagement and higher academic achievement. This sets students up for life and creates better social and economic outcomes for Western Australian families sand communities.

The School Education Act 1999 requires children of compulsory school age to attend school. When a child is unable to attend, legislation requires that Parents and Carers provide written notification providing a reasonable cause for the absence of the child.

We encourage you to notify the school of any absence via email or by replying to the school messaging system.

Updat-ed school app

Our school has implemented a phone app called Updat-ed that will make connecting with you so much more convenient.

To download the app just visit the App Store for iPhones or Google Play for Android’s. Search for Updat-ed and from the menu select our school. We’ll receive your registration request and will need to approve you before your app is up and running.

So what will the app do?

The app’s great for sending out alerts and reminders with one of its best features being the ability to save events directly into your phone’s calendar.

We hope you enjoy being Updat-ed.
