Dear Parents/Carers, Students, Staff and Community,
We have had a terrific start to Term Two, with students settling back into normal routines quickly. We have a busy term already, with the K/PP Mother‘s Day Morning Tea in week 2; NAPLAN for Years Three and Five and Do it For Dolly Day last week; and the Junior Room Assembly and P&C Day this week.
Staff Changes
From Week 7 Mrs Amanda Bouckaert will be backfilling Principal in my absence while I take Long Service Leave. Mrs Bouckaert is very familiar with the role at Scaddan Primary School, leading the school in 2012. She is an outstanding leader with a wealth of knowledge and skills. Mrs Bouckaert will ensure our school improvement trajectory flows into our School Review in Semester Two. Mrs Retha van Straaten will be replacing Mrs Bouckaert in the Junior Room. Mrs van Straaten has been a reliable and highly effective relief teacher at Scaddan Primary School for the last 12 months. Mrs Bouckaert and Mrs van Straaten will ensure a smooth transition and continuity of learning and teaching for the Junior Room students.
COVID-19 Updates
All COVID updates will be communicated through the school Seesaw app.
If your child tests positive to COVID, please phone the school on 90755100 as we are still required to report this to the Department of Education, in addition to families needing to report a positive RAT result to the Department of Health.
The Department of Education has been working with the Department of Finance to organise the delivery of RATs to all schools in Western Australia for distribution to students and families. Our school delivery of Rapid Antigen Tests is scheduled for this week. Families will be able to collect from school on Thursday after assembly or can make other arrangements for collection. Please see Seesaw announcements for further updates.
Kind Regards,
Lynley Neill
Principal
ANZAC Service
On Monday 25 April, Student Leaders Caitlyn and Lucas Biggers represented Scaddan Primary School at the Esperance Community ANZAC parade and service held at the RSL Memorial Park. This is a very special occasion for our student leaders each year as they lay a wreath on behalf of our school community.
NAPLAN
Last week, students in Years 3 and 5 completed NAPLAN. This annual assessment plays a key role in providing all stakeholders with information regarding our student’s progress and their knowledge and understandings in Literacy and Numeracy. Being a national assessment, the test gives valuable comparative data against age level benchmarks and also provides the school with feedback regarding the effectiveness of whole school programs in these key learning areas. Testing went very smoothly and all of our students approached the tests in a positive manner. Results will be available in Term 3 and the data will be used for planning for whole school improvement.
Do It For Dolly Day
Last Friday students came to school dressed up in ‘What makes you, you’. Thank you to Mrs Shiane Lea for your coordination of the event. Students participated in kindness activities throughout the day and created a beautiful whole school chalk mural with affirmations and what kindness looks like, feels like and sounds like. Thank you to our families who donated to this important cause.
Last week our Pre-Primary and Kindergarten mums joined us in the Early Childhood room for a Mother’s Day morning tea. We enjoyed lots of activities and there was lots of laughter. Miss Hatton and Mrs Maloney had lots of fun too.
For consistently demonstrating the value of Nurturing during our whole-school Physical Education lessons. You readily support and encourage your younger peers and you always have a smile on your face. Keep it up, Charlie!
Junior Assembly & P&C (Appreciation) Day
Please join us at 9am for the Junior Room assembly. We would like to invite all our P&C members to the assembly so we can acknowledge all the hard work that you do for our school, with students being at the forefront of your activities and fundraising.
Student Leader Day – Wednesday 25 May
A note will go home this week, inviting all student leaders to the Student Leader Day in Week 5.
PEAC/TAGS Program
During Weeks 7-9 our PEAC/TAGS students will have the opportunity to engage in a 3-day Robotics project with Mrs Stead and a Writing extension 2 day workshop with Mrs Feucs. Thank you to Mrs Stead and Mrs Feucs for providing valuable learning programs for our students.
Senior Mallee Camp Week 10
The camp organisation is in full swing, with the final details all coming together. Further information and permissions will be going home this week.
The camp has been generously supported by:
The challenge will run from Thursday May 5 to Friday September 9, 2022 and is open to all students from Kindergarten to Year 10. This year's theme is 'Reading can take you anywhere', showcasing to students that a love of reading can open the door to a world of opportunities.
Students participating in the challenge must read at least 12 books over the five-month period to be in the running to win major prizes. Students can go in the draw by logging a book per week.
Visit the Premier's Reading Challenge website at www.premiersreadingchallenge.wa.edu.au to register, search over 7,000 book titles and log books read.
Voluntary Contributions reminder
We are now collecting Voluntary Contributions and Charges. Endorsed by the School Council and provided to all parents at the end of last year, these payments greatly assist in the provision and planning of a range of activities for your children. Please make cheques payable to Scaddan Primary School or directly deposit into the school account (details provided on the 2022 Voluntary Contributions and Charges sheet). If you need any more information do not hesitate to contact Mrs Berry in the office.

As a school, we are required to work towards improving the attendance of our students.
ATTENDANCE
Congratulations to the following students who have achieved 100% attendance so far this term:
Billie, Hunter and Pippa
Congratulations to the following students who have achieved at or above our school target of 93% attendance so far this term:
Ryder, Sailor and Layla.
At Scaddan Primary School, our goal is to ensure every student has the opportunity to achieve their potential.
Scaddan Primary School will maintain consistently high levels of student attendance with a target of 93% or above. The Department of Education classifies any student below 90% as an attendance risk.
We know that everyday at school contributes to learning, which leads to better engagement and higher academic achievement. This sets students up for life and creates better social and economic outcomes for Western Australian families sand communities.
The School Education Act 1999 requires children of compulsory school age to attend school. When a child is unable to attend, legislation requires that Parents and Carers provide written notification providing a reasonable cause for the absence of the child.
We encourage you to notify the school of any absence via email or by replying to the school messaging system.
To download the app just visit the App Store for iPhones or Google Play for Android’s. Search for Updat-ed and from the menu select our school. We’ll receive your registration request and will need to approve you before your app is up and running.
So what will the app do?
The app’s great for sending out alerts and reminders with one of its best features being the ability to save events directly into your phone’s calendar.
We hope you enjoy being Updat-ed.
