Dear Parents, Students, Staff and Community Members,
Where are the weeks going? We have started another busy term with a School Development Day, Three Way Conference’s, 2023 Kindy Transition, World Teacher’s Day, Emergency Drills and our 2023 Student Leader process.
Thank you to our wonderful P&C for the evolving orchard next to our playground. We can't wait to see what is planted in the raised garden beds. The archways look amazing. The Nyungar Murals and Yarning Circle is in development. This space will be another fabulous addition to our Nature Playground. Special thanks to the Tyrrell and Bouckaert family for all your hard work. We look forward to using this space well into the future.
SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT DAY / ESPERANCE SHOW
While the students were enjoying the Esperance Show, staff were busy at Castletown Primary School engaging in professional learning and operational planning for 2023. It is always a valuable opportunity to network with other schools across the district and regions. The focus of the morning was Cable Beach's journey into Science of Reading. Staff reflected on current high impact teaching practices in their classrooms. It also was an opportunity for our staff to reflect on our school data to further develop our school priorities of English and Maths for 2023, and shape our Strategic Plan for 2023-2025.
Thank you to Miss Hatton and Mr Paterson for setting up the Show display. It is always a highlight to see all the beautiful student work on display.
THREE WAY CONFERENCES
Three Way Conferences were held in Week 2. They are a valuable opportunity to celebrate student achievements. It was a busy day with students having the opportunity to reflect and share their progress and learning over the semester. The classrooms are always open to families and the staff encourage you to ask any questions about your child's learning.
WORLD TEACHERS DAY
Last Friday was World Teacher’s Day, Australia. The students and staff enjoyed wearing their favourite hat to celebrate their amazing teachers in the theme of 'Hats off to Teachers'. I want to acknowledge and thank our hard working teachers for all the wonderful learning opportunities that they provide for our students. You are appreciated and valued for teaching and nurturing our students, building their confidence and supporting them to achieve their goals. The students enjoyed reflecting and sharing their beautiful messages to their teachers.
STUDENT COUNCILLOR PROCESS 2023
The Senior Room students have been provided with the opportunity of nominating themselves for Student Forum in 2023. This is the first part of a process. We will then allow time for the nominated students to develop a speech to deliver to the whole school. A mini assembly will take place on Wednesday 16th November @ 2:15pm. Parents and Carers are invited to attend. The students will vote directly after those speeches. The 2023 Student Forum will be announced at the End of Year Concert and Award Presentations on Tuesday 13th December.
I wish all of our senior students the very best within this selection process.
EMERGENCY DRILLS
Over the first few weeks of term we held a bushfire evacuation, lockdown and a snake drill. As the weather is heating up, the drills are a great reminder of our procedures and prepares students and staff for these events.
We have lots of fun and learning planned for the term! Wishing everyone all the best for harvest!
Kind regards,
Lynley Neill
Principal
KINDY TRANSITION WEEK
During Week 2 we welcomed our 6 new 2023 Kindy students for their 2 transition mornings. The students had two great mornings, full of fun and learning. The students settled into their new school routines beautifully. They enjoyed exploring their classroom and play areas, meeting their teachers and making new friends. We look forward to seeing you all next year!
MALLEE SWIM WEEK
At the end of last term, students had a busy week of swimming and activities. Students enjoyed socialising with students from the other four Mallee Schools. Thank you to Miss Nelson from Munglinup Primary School for organising the week. Pottery from the Cannery Arts session was sent home yesterday. Swim Week invoices have been sent home with your child. Thank you for your prompt payment. Please see Mrs Berry in the front office if you have any questions.
For consistently demonstrating the values of Pride and Excellence in the classroom. Your enthusiasm and determination towards your learning sets a fantastic example for your peers. Keep it up, Josh!
For demonstrating Pride in her writing, and taking on feedback from her teachers. Well done.
REMEMBRANCE DAY
On Friday 11 November, we will hold a minutes' silence at 11am near the school flagpole.Second Spring
Wildflower season (season of birth)
October - November
During the Kambarang season, we see an abundance of colours and flowers exploding all around us. The yellows of many of the Acacias continue to abound, along with some of the Banksias and many other smaller delicate flowering plants including the Kangaroo Paw and Orchids. Also during this time the Balgas will also start to flower, especially if they've been burnt in the past year or closely shaved.
One of the most striking displays of flowers to be seen during this season will be the "Mooja", or Australian Christmas Tree (Nuytsia). The bright orange/yellow flowers serve to signal the heat is on its way.
For the animals, October is also the most likely time of the year that you'll encounter a snake as the reptiles start to awaken from their hibernation and look to make the most of the warm to assist them in getting enough energy to look for food. It's also a time that many young families of birds will be singing out for their parents to feed them. Koolbardies (Magpies) will also be out protecting their nests and their babies.
Many things are undergoing transformation with the warm change in the weather.
Longer dry periods accompany a definite warming trend.

As a school, we are required to work towards improving the attendance of our students.
ATTENDANCE
Congratulations to the following students who have achieved 100% attendance so far this term:
Billie, Hunter and Pippa
Congratulations to the following students who have achieved at or above our school target of 93% attendance so far this term:
Ryder, Sailor and Layla.
At Scaddan Primary School, our goal is to ensure every student has the opportunity to achieve their potential.
Scaddan Primary School will maintain consistently high levels of student attendance with a target of 93% or above. The Department of Education classifies any student below 90% as an attendance risk.
We know that everyday at school contributes to learning, which leads to better engagement and higher academic achievement. This sets students up for life and creates better social and economic outcomes for Western Australian families sand communities.
The School Education Act 1999 requires children of compulsory school age to attend school. When a child is unable to attend, legislation requires that Parents and Carers provide written notification providing a reasonable cause for the absence of the child.
We encourage you to notify the school of any absence via email or by replying to the school messaging system.
