Dear Parents and families,
It has been wonderful to see everyone return to school refreshed and ready for Term 3. We are definitely feeling that we have returned to some normality; however, events over east still keep us aware that circumstances can change quite quickly.
The Department of Education continues to focus heavily on cleaning and we have once again received funding to ensure that Miss Mas Stephenson is with us full time during the week and that we have sufficient cleaning and hand sanitising equipment. We are still in Phase 4 of the restrictions and so we do need to mindful of distancing when holding assemblies and also meetings.
This is the first edition of the schools e-newsletter and we hope that you find format and reading experience enjoyable. If you have any ideas that you feel would be great additions to the newsletter, please do let us know.
Aussie of the Month
We would ask parents to download the Updat-ed app (a link has been placed on the school website or you can access it through the various app stores). The app will enable us to be able to push out any reminders and alerts to everyone e.g. late buses. It will also support our Emergency Management plan. The app will also provide links to newsletters and other important school information. If you require any assistance please contact the office.
The Senior Students will be presenting their Term 3 assembly at 9.00 am on Thursday 6th August. As always, we look forward seeing the students work and also having the school community together.
The P&C continue to support the students in so many fantastic ways. The next P&C will be meeting on Thursday 27th August.
School Development Day/Pupil Free Day
There will be a School Development Day on Friday 21st August (Week 5).
Mallee Teacher Day
On Thursday 20th August, the Mallee Teachers will be meeting in Esperance for a day of Professional Development and collaboration. This is still a normal school day and there will be relief teachers to cover the Junior and Senior classrooms.
In Week 8, the Year 6's will be heading off to Perth. We will be staying at the Point Walter Recreation Camp. More information will be sent to the Year 6 families in the next couple of weeks.
Grass Area at the front of the school
As you may have seen, there has been some work taking place on the grass area. Thankyou to Miss Mas and her team who have levelled the area. We need to give time for the grass to come through and so we request that visitors and students walk around the path andnot across the lawn please.
Miss Mas has asked whether parents have any rosemary cuttings at home. We are hoping to create a natural border to the sand play area to prevent sand loss.
Jeans for Genes
Jeans for Genes day will take place on Friday 7th August. Money raised will go towards the Children's Medical Research Institute.
Just to let you know that Mrs Crawford is currently on leave and will return on Tuesday 11th August. Thank you to Mrs Kaylene Karafilis, Miss Zara Brooks and Ms Liz Harry for doing relief.
A huge thank you to all those parents who completed the parent survey. In the next few weeks, we will feedback the results to you.
Talk for Writing PD
As you will know, we have been using Talk for Writing as our to writing framework. Yesterday and today, we hosted a two day workshop for thirty teachers from the Mallee and Esperance Schools focusing on the teaching of Talk for Writing. Thank you so much to the School P&C for catering for the event. The food, as always, was a huge success.
To download the app just visit the App Store for iPhones or Google Play for Android’s. Search for Updat-ed and from the menu select our school. We’ll receive your registration request and will need to approve you before your app is up and running.
