Scaddan PS Newsletter

Week 4, Term 3 2020

Principals Welcome Week 4 Term 3

Dear Parents and families,

It has been fantastic to get a good drop rain in the last couple of weeks. We are certainly pleased that the dam is looking healthy and that the rain water tanks are nice and full. We are hoping that the recent planting around the school and the work that took place on the front lawn will really benefit from the rain.

Thank you to all those parents who completed the National Opinion Survey. The feedback was really positive and highlighted the great work that the staff and community have done in providing a wonderful learning environment for the students. As with any survey, there are areas for us to be aware of and during the next couple of weeks, the staff and the School Council will review the parent, staff and student survey data.

A reminder to parents and families that the Fear-Less Triple P workshop is taking place this Semester. The workshop is for both Scaddan PS and Salmon Gums PS parents and will take place in Week 1, Term 4. We expect the workshop to be held at the Grass Patch Community Hall; the day will be confirmed by the next newsletter. Thank you to those parents who have expressed an interest.

We hope you enjoy this fortnight’s newsletter.

Kind regards,

David

Assembly Report Thursday 6th August

It is great to see so many people at the assembly. We will now tell you about a few events that are coming up this term.

Tomorrow is Jeans for Genes Day. Students and staff are encouraged to come to school in their jeans with a gold coin donation. All proceed will be given to the Children’s Medical Research Institute which researches genetic diseases in children.

The Year 6 students will be going on a senior camp to Perth in Week 8 of this term. We are travelling by bus with the Year 5 and 6 students from Cascade PS, Munglinup PS, Salmon Gums PS and Condingup PS. We are excited to be staying at Point Walter for the week and visiting many of Perth’s attractions such as Scitech, Perth Zoo and Fremantle Prison at night. We will be doing lots of fun activities at Point Walter such as high ropes and the flying fox. There will be lots of delicious food and we are very happy that Mr Vooght-Simpson will be going with us.

PJ day is on Thursday 27th August. We are fundraising for a bush tucker garden. So remember to wear your PJs and bring a gold coin.

Finally, we had some sad news. Our adopted Koala, Paul has passed away due to the injuries he suffered in the Queensland bushfires. The money donated from Scaddan will continue to help other Koalas.

Thank you for listening to our student forum report.

Thank you to everyone for supporting Jeans for Genes day. We managed to raise $32.00. The money will go to the Children’s Medical Research Institute.

It’s great to have Mrs Crawford back at work today and I know that she is really happy to be back helping our students to learn and have fun.

Senior Assembly

Thank you to the Mr Paterson and the Seniors for their assembly piece. The messages focused on Sun safety were extremely important. I was very impressed with many of the students who had learnt their lines and also the Acknowledgement of Country.

Professional Learning

Last Thursday, I attended the Leading Classroom Observation and Feedback professional learning in Esperance. Classroom observations have started this term and will continue to take place during the year. As with last year, we will be inviting teachers who have specific expertise in the Esperance region to support the process.

...and finally

The first piece of our Library furniture has arrived. Introducing the 'Nanna Mary' chair.  The colours represent the School Values of Respect, Nurturing, Pride and Excellence.

Updat-ed school app

Our school has implemented a phone app called Updat-ed that will make connecting with you so much more convenient.

To download the app just visit the App Store for iPhones or Google Play for Android’s. Search for Updat-ed and from the menu select our school. We’ll receive your registration request and will need to approve you before your app is up and running.

So what will the app do?

The app’s great for sending out alerts and reminders with one of its best features being the ability to save events directly into your phone’s calendar.

We hope you enjoy being Updat-ed.
