Dear parents and families,
The term planner has certainly filled up in the last couple of weeks. With Faction Carnivals, Interschool, Assemblies and photos to name a few, the students and staff will certainly be busy.
The staff have been really impressed with the way the students have returned and we are all looking forward to building upon the teaching and learning that took place last year. Already, we have seen some great advances in writing within the Junior classroom, a sign that the Talk for Writing approach is having a positive impact.
We currently have an Educational Assistant (Mainstream FTE 0.4) position being advertised on Jobs WA. For more information, please use the link below. The closing date is Tuesday 2nd March, 2021 at 4:30pm

I look forward to seeing many of you at the upcoming assembly, P&C meeting and also School Council meeting.
Take care,
David
‘Learning and Friendship’
French
Our Senior Students (Year 3 – 6) are once again learning French through SIDE (School of Isolated and Distance Education). Sessions will run between recess and lunch on a Tuesday and Thursday. This year, we have Mr Craig Smart teaching the students.
Faction Carnival
Salmon Gums PS are hosting this year’s Mallee North Faction Carnival; however, Scaddan PS will be the venue for the event. The Faction Carnival will take place on Thursday 11th March. We will try to keep the teams as similar to last year though there may need to be some slight changes to ensure that there is balance in each year group. The aim of the day is to have fun and to develop strong positive relationships before we head off to the Interschool Carnival.
Faction Carnival Practice
The students of Salmon Gums PS will be joining us for a practice. I will confirm the date by the end of week 4. As always, it is a great opportunity for the teams to get together prior to the Faction Carnival.
Interschool Athletics Carnival
Currently, the Interschool Athletics Carnival date is Friday 26th March at Cascade Oval. Mallee West have also booked the Greater Sports Ground on Monday 29th March in case there are any disruptions. The date will be confirmed and set in stone after Friday 12th March. Once again, the teams are Esperance Christian School, Condingup Primary School, Mallee West (Munglinup/Cascade combined) and Mallee North (Scaddan/Salmon Gums combined). Further information will be sent out to parents in the coming weeks.
Lunch order forms(pink) for the Interschool Athletics Carnival will be sent home with your child this week, please return them by Monday 8th March.
Assembly
The Year 1, 2 and 3 students will be hosting the assembly on Thursday 25th February at 9.00am in the Library. Mrs Bouckaert has been busily preparing the students and we hope that you can join us for the morning.
P& C Meeting
The P&C are meeting after assembly (approximately 9.45am) on Thursday 25th February. Thank you so much for all the support and effort that the P&C provided over 2020. I look forward to working alongside the P&C as we progress through 2021.
School Council
The School Council will meet at 1.30pm in the Library on Wednesday 3rd March. We are lucky to have a very strong School Council and this we have the addition of Miss Hatton who I know is very excited to be joining the team.
Photos
A reminder that school photos are on Thursday 4th March during the morning. Students need to wear the white formal uniform. Envelopes have been sent home to families.
NAPLAN Online
The Scaddan Primary School Year 3 and 5 students will be participating in NAPLAN Online in Term 2. Information has already been sent to the parents of those students participating.

As a school, we are required to work towards improving the attendance of our students.
ATTENDANCE
Congratulations to the following students who have achieved 100% attendance so far this term:
Billie, Hunter and Pippa
Congratulations to the following students who have achieved at or above our school target of 93% attendance so far this term:
Ryder, Sailor and Layla.
At Scaddan Primary School, our goal is to ensure every student has the opportunity to achieve their potential.
Scaddan Primary School will maintain consistently high levels of student attendance with a target of 93% or above. The Department of Education classifies any student below 90% as an attendance risk.
We know that everyday at school contributes to learning, which leads to better engagement and higher academic achievement. This sets students up for life and creates better social and economic outcomes for Western Australian families sand communities.
The School Education Act 1999 requires children of compulsory school age to attend school. When a child is unable to attend, legislation requires that Parents and Carers provide written notification providing a reasonable cause for the absence of the child.
We encourage you to notify the school of any absence via email or by replying to the school messaging system.
To download the app just visit the App Store for iPhones or Google Play for Android’s. Search for Updat-ed and from the menu select our school. We’ll receive your registration request and will need to approve you before your app is up and running.
So what will the app do?
The app’s great for sending out alerts and reminders with one of its best features being the ability to save events directly into your phone’s calendar.
We hope you enjoy being Updat-ed.
