Dear parents and families,
It’s been a great few weeks of sport and fun. The recent Faction Carnival and Interschool Carnival have shown how amazing the Scaddan PS community is. Thank you to all the parents, families and staff for helping to ensure the events ran smoothly and that the students were prepared for the days.
Last week, I informed the staff and parents that I will be leaving my role as Principal of Scaddan Primary School at the end of this term. From Term 2 onwards, I will be the Principal of Ravensthorpe DHS. Miss Ashleigh Dixon will be filling the position of Principal from Term 2. Miss Dixon has visited the school today to meet staff and students. I know that she will enjoy leading such an amazing school.
A special thank you goes to Mrs Tracey Berry who is invaluable for the school. I really do appreciate the support you have given me, Tracey. To Mrs Amanda Bouckaert and Mrs Tara Vermeersch, thank you for your great leadership of the School Council and P&C. To the staff, thank you for your professionalism, flexibility and effort that you put into ensuring the students have an amazing learning experience and that the school looks incredible. Finally, I sincerely thank everyone for the support they have given over my time at the school.
Take care,
David
Last week, we built a fairy garden. Then on Thursday we found a letter in the treasure chest from the Fairies. They are so impressed with all of our listening and kindness that they are planning a surprise with the Easter Bilby. We can’t wait!
Interschool
What a fantastic performance by Mallee North last Friday. We are all extremely proud of each and every one of the students who gave their best and represented the school values brilliantly. The catching performances in the team games and also the baton changes in the relays showed great improvement; well done to our student leaders for leading so many of the practice sessions. The new Mallee North tops looked really good; well done to Salmon Gums for the design. Congratulations to Indi-Lee Clark (Junior Champion), Lucas Biggers (Intermediate Champion Runner Up) and Mitchell Guest (Senior Champion). Your success was very well deserved.
Thank you to Mallee West for hosting the event. A special thank you to Mrs Merrill Ridgley and Mrs Erica Byrne for organising the day after a difficult week. Finally, congratulations to Condingup Primary School on a well-earned win.
Faction Carnival
A really enjoyable day was had by all at the Mallee North Faction Carnival. It was great to see everyone approach the day in the spirit of fun and participation. Thank you to the staff and community of Salmon Gums PS for running a great day and for the organisation that took place before the day. A huge thank you to Miss Mas and Bevan Bailye for ensuring that the oval was in great shape.

NAPLAN Practice
Last Thursday, our Year 3’s and 5’s took part in a NAPLAN practice session. Our Year 3’s completed an omnibus test while the Year 5’s completed an omnibus and writing test. The process went smoothly and as a school, we are looking well set to run the NAPLAN Online tests in Term 2.

We have now completed the interviews for the position of EA (fixed term for 2021). The breach period ends on Wednesday 31st March and I will inform you all of the appointment on Thursday.

As a school, we are required to work towards improving the attendance of our students.
There are a so many important reasons why your child needs to attend school regularly. By regularly, we mean above 90% of the time (no more than five absent days per term). The Esperance Region is working hard to ensure that our students attend school. If as a school, we can aspire to reach 92 - 93%, then we will be really helping our students to reach their full potential.
Of course there are always exceptions to this when children need to take time off school for perfectly acceptable reasons.
What should I do if my child is away from school?
