Principal Welcome Week 4, Term 2 2021

It is hard to believe we are already in Week 4!

I feel thankful for the beautiful relationships I am beginning to build with our wonderful students, staff and community. It is greatly appreciated to see so many families attend school events during seeding. Your support of the school is highly valued.

I have enjoyed Monday morning story time with students, hearing about their weekend sporting success! Equally, the students have provided me great insight into farm life and I have been learning so much from them.

The students and teachers have been busy setting ambitious learning goals this term. I look forward to seeing the progress made towards these goals in the coming weeks.

Recent News Week 4, Term 2 2021

Whole School Anzac Day Service

Thank you to Mr Paterson and the Senior Room students for planning our commemorative event. Your selection of readings were very meaningful and everyone presented so well. I felt very proud of you all. Another thank you to Mrs Bouckaert for designing and contributing the commemorative wreath.  A big appreciation to our P&C for hosting the morning tea, it was so great to have time for a meet and greet.

Mother’s Day

A belated happy Mother’s Day to our special mums. A big appreciation to Miss Hatton and Mrs Guerini on the amazing set up in the Junior Room. It was great to see our mums get the pampering they deserve.

NAPLAN

Well done to our Year 3 and Year 5 students who are taking part in the NAPLAN online assessments this week. Students participate in 4 tests (40-60 mins) which cover reading, writing and mathematics. Students sit these tests in all States of Australia and they provide each school and region with a snap shot of student learning on a given day.

The NAPLAN online tests use tailored testing, where the test automatically adapts to student performance and asks questions that match the student achievement level, allowing the student to demonstrate their knowledge.

Your child’s results will be sent home in a report during Semester 2. If you would like any further information about these assessments, please contact Miss Dixon who will be coordinating NAPLAN this year.

P&C

Thank you to the P&C for an insightful and motivating meeting yesterday afternoon. A special mention to Ros for her commitments in keeping our uniform shop running smoothly, I know at times this has presented considerable challenges.

Voluntary Contributions and Charges

We are now collecting Voluntary Contributions and Charges. Endorsed by the School Council and provided to all parents at the end of last year, these payments greatly assist in the provision and planning of a range of activities for your children. Please make cheques payable to Scaddan Primary School or directly deposit into the school account. If you require any more information do not hesitate to contact Mrs Berry in the office.

A special thank you - Bunnings

Scaddan Primary School would like to thank Bunnings for the wonderful gift - Compost Tumbler to assist us with our school waste. A special mention goes to Mrs Blair, Mrs Marg Hall, Miss Mas and Lucas for building the compost tumbler last week. The students are very excited to use it and Miss Hatton can not wait to see all the new produce that we grow utilising our new compost.

Upcoming Events and Information Week 4, Term 2 2021

"What I want to be when I grow up" - Dress up day - Thursday 27th May

Our students are  running a “what I want to be when I grow up” dress up day. A gold coin donation to dress up will assist us to adopt another Koala.

Last year, our students sponsored a koala that was hurt in the awful bushfires over east. Unfortunately Paul passed away due to his injuries but with our amazing support we were able to help this organisation take care of other kolas in need. This May we will be supporting another koala that needs our help.

Senior Room Excursion

The students in the Senior Room have been invited to an exciting Reading and Writing excursion at Castletown Primary School. This is on Friday 28th May (Week 6). Permission slips and further information will be sent out this Thursday. We ask these are returned as soon as possible.

Staff Development Day

Our staff will be participating a professional learning day on Friday 4th June (Week 7). This will be a pupil free day. In addition, Monday 7th June (Week 8) is the WA Day public holiday. As a result, there will be a four-day long weekend for our students.

Senior Assembly

A reminder that our Senior Assembly will be held at 9am on Thursday 20th May in the library.

Reconciliation Week

The 2021 the National Reconciliation Week theme is, “More than a word”. This means that reconciliation takes action, urging the reconciliation movement towards braver more impactful action. Reconciliation Week will run from Thursday 27th May – Thursday 3rd June.

As a community and school we are in the process of planning for Reconciliation Week. We welcome community involvement or suggestions in the lead up to this significant event in our calendar.

Attendance Matters

As a school, we are required to work towards improving the attendance of our students.

There are a so many important reasons why your child needs to attend school regularly.  By regularly, we mean above 90% of the time (no more than five absent days per term). The Esperance Region is working hard to ensure that our students attend school.  If as a school, we can aspire to reach 92 - 93%, then we will be really helping our students to reach their full potential.

Of course there are always exceptions to this when children need to take time off school for perfectly acceptable reasons.

What should I do if my child is away from school?

  • Please let the school know at the earliest convenience, either by phone or email.
  • If your child is going to be away for more than three days, please let the school know by phone or email.
  • Send a note with your child to explain why your child was away.

Influenza Vaccination Program for Primary School Aged Children

This year, the Department of Health WA has provided funding for all primary school children to receive a free influenza vaccine.

Updat-ed school app

Our school has implemented a phone app called Updat-ed that will make connecting with you so much more convenient.

To download the app just visit the App Store for iPhones or Google Play for Android’s. Search for Updat-ed and from the menu select our school. We’ll receive your registration request and will need to approve you before your app is up and running.

So what will the app do?

The app’s great for sending out alerts and reminders with one of its best features being the ability to save events directly into your phone’s calendar.

We hope you enjoy being Updat-ed.
