Principals Welcome Week 6, Term 2 2021

I respectfully acknowledge the past and present traditional custodians of this land on which I write to you from.
It is a privilege to come together on Noongar country.
We pay our respects to elders past, present and emerging.
We also acknowledge the contributions of Aboriginal Australians to the education of all children and people in this country we all live and share – Australia.

With Sorry Day on Wednesday and Reconciliation Week commencing I have a heightened sense of reflection on my own culturally responsive journey and that of our schools.

As we come together for Reconciliation Week we describe the unifying process that bring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the broader Australian community into a more respectful relationship that restores justice and equity for everyone. This speaks so well to some our Scaddan Primary School core values - nurturing, respect and pride.

Reconciliation Australia’s theme for 2021, is More than a word. Reconciliation takes action, urges the reconciliation movement towards braver and more impactful action.

For Scaddan Primary School our action is taking a leap towards educating, understanding Aboriginal perspectives, truth telling and connecting to the Aboriginal way of knowing, being and doing. I have had an immense sense of pride for the authentic learning our students and teachers are engaging with.

Recent News Week 6, Term 2 2021

Swim Week (Pre-primary – Year 6)

This year, due to COVID regulations and the closing of accommodation in Esperance we are unable to offer Swim Camp in the same format as previous years. Thank you to those families who have indicated whether they have their own accommodation in town.  Once we have our final numbers, we will collate the data between the Mallee schools and communicate our next steps. If you have any concerns or questions regarding Swim Week please contact Ashleigh Dixon.

Healthy Lunch

We love seeing the delicious, healthy lunches our students bring to school. Healthy eating helps children and young people cope more effectively with stress, better manage their emotions and get a good sleep – all of which are essential for assisting learning. Miss Dixon had a great time trying out the Cancer Council lunchbox builder.

Attendance Matters

As a school, we are required to work towards improving the attendance of our students.

There are a so many important reasons why your child needs to attend school regularly.  By regularly, we mean above 90% of the time (no more than five absent days per term). The Esperance Region is working hard to ensure that our students attend school.  If as a school, we can aspire to reach 92 - 93%, then we will be really helping our students to reach their full potential.

Of course there are always exceptions to this when children need to take time off school for perfectly acceptable reasons.

What should I do if my child is away from school?

  • Please let the school know at the earliest convenience, either by phone or email.
  • If your child is going to be away for more than three days, please let the school know by phone or email.
  • Send a note with your child to explain why your child was away.

Influenza Vaccination Program for Primary School Aged Children

This year, the Department of Health WA has provided funding for all primary school children to receive a free influenza vaccine.

Updat-ed school app

Our school has implemented a phone app called Updat-ed that will make connecting with you so much more convenient.

To download the app just visit the App Store for iPhones or Google Play for Android’s. Search for Updat-ed and from the menu select our school. We’ll receive your registration request and will need to approve you before your app is up and running.

So what will the app do?

The app’s great for sending out alerts and reminders with one of its best features being the ability to save events directly into your phone’s calendar.

We hope you enjoy being Updat-ed.
