Welcome to Term 3
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff, students and school community for your warm welcome to Scaddan Primary School. I feel very grateful to have the opportunity to lead such an incredible school.
I have spent the last 6 months as Principal at Munglinup Primary School, and appreciate the uniqueness of a Level 3 school and everything that they have to offer. The Cape Le Grand excursion on Monday was an example of how the Mallee schools support each other and provide special opportunities for our students.
I have been so impressed by all students and their engagement and the school values they display. I am enjoying getting to know the students during daily morning fitness sessions organised by our very capable student leaders. The students have already earnt a Whole School Reward, receiving tokens to fill the ‘Respect’ tube in the front office. They will enjoy a special Science Week session in week 5 to celebrate.
We welcome Catharina to Scaddan Primary School. We are so proud of how you approached your first week at school and have settled into the school routines so quickly. The kindergarten students are also enjoying their extra day, increasing their school time to 3 days each week this Semester.
I am looking forward to the School Council meeting on Wednesday and the P&C meeting next week, to hear all about the wonderful projects and portfolios happening around the school. I am grateful for everything you do to support the school whether that be fundraising, supporting learning or implementing significant school projects.
With the lockdown of Perth’s schools at the end of last term, we remain prepared and are organised to provide remote learning if the need arises. The school will maintain a teaching and learning plan and be able to pivot quickly if needed to support our students.
I look forward to getting to know all families in the school over the next few weeks.
My door is always open and please feel free to send me an email (lynley.neill@education.wa.edu.au) or call the school mobile 0427 756 055 if you can’t get to school.
Kind regards
Lynley Neill
Our geologists hard at work, mining, examining and sorting our crystals and gems.
This week we started our Peggy Lego unit, practicing pre-writing formations with our Kindy's and letter formation for our Pre-Primary's.
We are making our fire fighters helmet and practising starting at the top… pull down and stop!
For consistently demonstrating the value of Nurturing. You make a conscious effort to support and include your peers both inside and outside the classroom which is lovely to see. Keep it up, Indi-Lee!
On the School Development Day, Mandy Bouckaert presented a session to our staff as part of her Curriculum Support Teacher (CST) role. The Curriculum Support Professional Learning is a Department of Education initiative to support teachers to implement the mandated content of the WA Curriculum through the use of the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) planning and assessment exemplars.
The exemplars:
Mandy’s SCSA Curriculum session was contextualised to planning for a Multi Age Group (MAG) classroom. She shared her English, Maths, Visual Arts and HASS planning. Mandy supported staff to unpack the new Curriculum Support materials and to explore ways to incorporate them into the principles of teaching, learning and assessment and planning for Term 3. We are very lucky to have such a valuable resource in Mandy at Scaddan PS.
The Community Health Nurses visited last week and conducted the Kindy Health checks.
Parents and caregivers are at the heart of our schools and last week Scaddan PS celebrated our wonderful Parents and Citizens Association (P&C) Day with an afternoon tea with the school community. We are so grateful for our P&C and all their hard work and contribution.
On Monday the Mallee schools attended a NAIDOC Excursion at Cape Le Grand. The theme this year was Heal Country. Thank you to Sara Sills from Munglinup PS for coordinating the event. The students participated in sessions provided by the Tjaltjraak Rangers and Mallee teachers. The sessions included listening to a Creation story of Mandaboornap (Frenchman Peak), they explored native plants and their cultural uses, and learned Wudjari language and the use of cultural tools and artefacts. Thank you to Samantha Hatton who provided one of the teacher led activities. Other activities included learning about the Aboriginal Flag, listening to stories and making a bookmark/postcard based on a story, making a NAIDOC necklace/bracelet using painted beads, and creating a combined NAIDOC Canvas with handprints of all participants to commemorate the occasion. I will be attending a Cultural Awareness workshop next week, organised by the Esperance Principal Network.
The Primary Extension and Challenge (PEAC) test is mandatory for Year 4 students in Term 3. Test results are used to identify eligible students for PEAC courses in 2022. Teachers also use PEAC test results to plan targeted learning programs that meet students’ learning needs. Testing is scheduled for Week 3.
School Council is on today @ 1:30pm in the library.
P&C meeting is next Thursday 5th August @ 1:30pm in the library.
The first assembly will be held in Week 4 on Thursday 12th August @ 9am in the library.
We are looking forward to Science Week 16th – 20th August.
Swim camp has been booked for week 10. A booklet will be going home next week with more information.

As a school, we are required to work towards improving the attendance of our students.
There are a so many important reasons why your child needs to attend school regularly. By regularly, we mean above 90% of the time (no more than five absent days per term). The Esperance Region is working hard to ensure that our students attend school. If as a school, we can aspire to reach 92 - 93%, then we will be really helping our students to reach their full potential.
Of course there are always exceptions to this when children need to take time off school for perfectly acceptable reasons.
What should I do if my child is away from school?
