Principal Welcome Week 6, Term 4 2021

Dear Parents, Carers, Staff and Community Members,

2022 Student Forum

I would like to start by congratulating the students from the Senior Room who nominated for 2022 Student Forum. This afternoon we heard why they would like to be a Student Forum representative in 2022. The students are all role models who uphold the school values and are respectful, caring and responsible. The speeches presented today were all amazing. It is going to be a very close vote. Voting has taken place and the 2022 Student Forum will be announced at the End of Year Concert and Awards night. Good luck to all our nominees.

Whole School Reward

The students have been working so hard that they have achieved another values reward for the school value NURTURING. To celebrate another amazing achievement the students will wear crazy hair and crazy socks to school next Wednesday 24th November.

Junior and Senior Mallee Network Teacher Day

This Friday Mr Paterson and Miss Hatton will be engaging in professional learning with the four other Mallee Schools. Mrs Bouckaert will be presenting P-Year 6 Planning, Teaching and Assessment in a Multi Age Group (MAG) Classroom as part of her Curriculum Support Teacher role. Mrs Bouckaert’s Curriculum Support Professional Learning is a Department of Education initiative to support teachers to implement the mandated content of the WA Curriculum through the use of the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) planning and assessment exemplars. The session will focus on the structure of a MAGS classroom; looking at the Principles of Planning, Teaching and Assessment. Teachers will be exploring the SCSA exemplars and other support documents to promote good planning practice. They will engage in phase appropriate pedagogy using clear and effective assessment and moderation.

Mallee North Faction Carnival Names

Mallee North are revisiting the names we have used for our faction carnival teams for the last 2 years and we are asking for your feedback. The students chose Purple Passion and Banana Blast. We want to see if the school community would like to keep the names or have the opportunity to feedback on the names and suggest names that reflect our school and our region. Both Scaddan Primary School and Salmon Gums Primary School will consult with students and the school community about the Mallee North Faction names this term in preparation for the Athletics Carnival in Term 1. An online form will be going home to families this week.

Swim Week Invoices

Swim week invoices are being prepared and will be sent home next week. We would like to thank our P&C for their generous support for this event. Invoices will reflect the P&C financial contribution. Invoices have been individually prepared reflecting student meals ordered over swim week.

Attendance

Congratulations to the following students who have achieved 100% attendance this term:

Josh, Caitlyn, Lucas, Aidan, Indi-Lee, Marley, Isabel, Kiana, Christian, Aleisha, and Ethan

Please come and see Mrs Berry in the office for your prize.

2021 Voluntary Contributions and Charges and Personal Items List

The 2022 Voluntary Contributions and Charges will be sent home with your child this week. This has been endorsed by the 2021 School Council. We will also send home with your child the 2022 Personal Item List. Please keep in mind that the supplier listed on the Personal items list is only recommended. Parents can source the equipment from another supplier if they wish. Any questions, please contact the office.

Attendance Matters

As a school, we are required to work towards improving the attendance of our students.

There are a so many important reasons why your child needs to attend school regularly.  By regularly, we mean above 90% of the time (no more than five absent days per term). The Esperance Region is working hard to ensure that our students attend school.  If as a school, we can aspire to reach 92 - 93%, then we will be really helping our students to reach their full potential.

Of course there are always exceptions to this when children need to take time off school for perfectly acceptable reasons.

What should I do if my child is away from school?

  • Please let the school know at the earliest convenience, either by phone or email.
  • If your child is going to be away for more than three days, please let the school know by phone or email.
  • Send a note with your child to explain why your child was away.

Updat-ed school app

Our school has implemented a phone app called Updat-ed that will make connecting with you so much more convenient.

To download the app just visit the App Store for iPhones or Google Play for Android’s. Search for Updat-ed and from the menu select our school. We’ll receive your registration request and will need to approve you before your app is up and running.

So what will the app do?

The app’s great for sending out alerts and reminders with one of its best features being the ability to save events directly into your phone’s calendar.

We hope you enjoy being Updat-ed.
