Principals Welcome Week 10, Term 4 2021

Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members,

Welcome to our last newsletter of the year. What a wonderful year 2021 has been, although we have been very busy and things are very hectic at the end of the year, our students continue to surprise us and bring us joy every day.

The End of Year Concert was a huge success, with all of the songs and item performed to a high level. We were all very proud of the students and I personally would like to thank Mrs Bouckaert for all her time and effort in the organisation and adaption of the story, ‘Wombat Stew’ into a very entertaining play. The teachers and students did an incredible job. Thank you to the P&C for providing the students with intermission treats and for all your support in the preparation and pack up at Scaddan Country Club.

A huge congratulations to all the book prize winners and thank you to all the generous sponsors and presenters.

Mrs Berry put in a lot of work behind the scenes to make the night run smoothly. The video was another highlight. Thank you for all your hard work.

Thank you to our P&C and School Council for all your support and commitment to ensuring our priorities remain a focus. We are grateful.

I wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas break with friends and family, and look forward to seeing students refreshed and ready for a successful and fulfilling 2022.

Formal Reports for Semester Two, 2021
A reminder that formal reports for this semester has been sent home with your child today.

Chris Blair retirement morning tea

Last Friday we said goodbye to our school’s YouthCare Chaplain Mrs Christine Blair. Mrs Blair will be remembered for all the fun and nurturing she brought to our school. The students loved her Zumba, knitting and drumming. We have a beautiful reminder of Mrs Blair in our tree in the nature play fort– the hugging tree.

Mandatory Vaccination Requirements for Visitors in 2022
Guidelines from the Department of Education have been developed, which clarify the vaccination requirements for visitors to the school site. Any person involved in regular work-type activity at the school requires double-vaccination. People considered to be visitors on a “regular basis” do require the vaccination. Those considered to be on an “ad hoc basis” do not.

These are defined as:
Ad hoc: Attendance at no more than one education facility no more than once per week. Regular: More than once per week (either within one site or across multiple school sites).

This means:

  • Parents who visit the school to drop off and pick up children do not require vaccination.
  • Visiting the school for an event such as an assembly will not require vaccination.

Further information will be provided prior to the start of the school year.

Attendance Matters

As a school, we are required to work towards improving the attendance of our students.

There are a so many important reasons why your child needs to attend school regularly.  By regularly, we mean above 90% of the time (no more than five absent days per term). The Esperance Region is working hard to ensure that our students attend school.  If as a school, we can aspire to reach 92 - 93%, then we will be really helping our students to reach their full potential.

Of course there are always exceptions to this when children need to take time off school for perfectly acceptable reasons.

What should I do if my child is away from school?

  • Please let the school know at the earliest convenience, either by phone or email.
  • If your child is going to be away for more than three days, please let the school know by phone or email.
  • Send a note with your child to explain why your child was away.

Updat-ed school app

Our school has implemented a phone app called Updat-ed that will make connecting with you so much more convenient.

To download the app just visit the App Store for iPhones or Google Play for Android’s. Search for Updat-ed and from the menu select our school. We’ll receive your registration request and will need to approve you before your app is up and running.

So what will the app do?

The app’s great for sending out alerts and reminders with one of its best features being the ability to save events directly into your phone’s calendar.

We hope you enjoy being Updat-ed.
