On Monday 10 June, the year 5 and 6 students from Scaddan, Salmon Gums, Condingup, Munglinup, and Cascade Primary Schools went to Swan Valley Adventure Centre for the 2024 Senior Mallee Camp.
It was Monday, the morning of the bus ride to Swan Valley Adventure Centre... We all hopped on the bus, and got going. We stopped at Munglinup to pick up the other passengers then stopped at Ravensthorpe for morning tea. We had lunch and a play at Lake Grace. Then finally, at half past five, we arrived at our destination, Swan Valley Adventure Centre. We ate our dinner, had a team meeting and that night we promptly went to bed.
On Tuesday morning, the boys slept in, having had a poor sleep. However, on the other side of the building, the girls woke up so early, that the teachers took them outside and made them run laps of the oval. Tuesday, was the first day of activities, it was team building up first. One of our favourite activities was a challenge where we had to get coconuts filled with water from one end of the obstacle course to the other without moving your feet when holding the coconuts and swinging from tyres. The next activity was the commando course where everyone got very dirty while trying to navigate a massive obstacle course. Finally, the catapult build task where we were divided into groups to build sling shots with only a certain amount of rope, two large sticks, a piece of cloth, and a length of elastic.
On Wednesday, we divided into groups and rotated through the activities of high ropes, possum gliding, and frisbee golf. High ropes is an obstacle course in the air. It was really fun but a bit scary for some people as it was so high. Possum gliding is when you get harnessed to a rope and your teammates pull you into the air and then let you down again. Frisbee golf, is exactly how it sounds, golf with a Frisbee and targets instead of a golf ball and green.
On Thursday, our final activities were archery, canoeing, and blackout zone. In black out zone we role-played surviving a plane crash and the goal was to find our captain who had been missing. There was lots of obstacles, including riddles, mazes, and tunnels. Throughout the course, we collected water. We didn't know what the water was for until we reached the final room. We used the water to fill up a giant tube to receive a key. Some of the water spilt and went all over everyone. At the end of the course one group succeeded in finding their captain! Our next course was archery. We had an amazing time learning how to wield a bow. A few people even hit a bullseye! We also canoed. It was a great experience paddling downstream in the Swan River. We also played tag in the canoes.
Friday we travelled home uneventfully as we were exhausted from our amazing camp. We all had a really fun time and enjoyed everything. We all tried and had a go of everything. We represented our school values and were kind to the teachers and all our friends.
With deepest thanks to Southern Ports, South-East Petroleum, Munglinup Roadhouse, all the teachers that came with us to help, and parents for letting us go. Thank you so much everyone!
